“A Guru is like the full moon, whose teachings soothe the soul like soft moonlight.”
Braving incessant rains, thousands of devotees gathered at the Jiva Asramam in Muchintal to attend the Guru Purnima discourse by their revered Acharya, HH Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji, and receive his blessings and teertham.
The auspicious day also marked the commencement of HH Swamiji’s Chaturmasa Deeksha, an ancient, four-month seasonal vow. During this sacred period, saints and monks pause their travels to stay in one location, dedicating their time to deep meditation, scriptural reflection, and spiritual discourses.
In his profound address, HH Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji highlighted the timeless contributions of Sage Veda Vyasa. Guru Purnima marks the appearance day of Maharshi Veda Vyasa, and is widely celebrated as Vyasa Purnima.
Over 6,000 years ago, Vyasa Maharshi systematically classified and rearranged the vast, boundless knowledge of the Vedas into structured texts for the benefit of future generations.
He explored the cosmic relationship between the Self (Jiva), God (Paramatma), and Nature (Prakriti). His realisations are preserved in foundational texts like the Brahma Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita and Mahabharata.
By training thousands of disciples, Vyasa Maharshi established a vast lineage (Guru Parampara) that formed the core of spiritual and metaphysical thought over centuries
Swamiji explained that Maharshi Vyasa’s original teachings underwent changes and were interpreted differently over time. However, it was our good fortune that we were blessed by the advent of Bhagavad Ramanuja. Sri Ramanuja painstakingly and meticulously filtered out the distortions and inaccuracies that had crept into Vedic interpretations, restoring the clarity of the original texts. Swamiji said that Goddess Sarada’s divine grace upon Sri Ramanuja firmly validated his place in the authentic lineage of Veda Vyasa.
Sri Ramanuja gifted seekers works of pure Vedic wisdom, including the Vedartha Sangraha, Sri Bhashyam, and Gita Bhashyam.
Swamiji urged the gathering to utilise the highly spiritual Chaturmasa period to strengthen both the mind and body which include memorising bhakti enhancing stotrams, such as Yathiraja Vimsati, Ramanuja Ashtottaram, and Dhati Panchakam.
By drawing a parallel to Lord Hanuman, who only discovered his immense strength to leap across the ocean when reminded of it by others, Swamiji said that devotees can also test and build physical and mental self-discipline, following the dietary restrictions of avoiding leafy vegetables in the first fortnight, dairy products in the second, pulses (lentils) in the third and finally salt in the fourth fortnight
During the two-month Deeksha period, Swamiji will deliver daily discourses on the sacred Dvayamanthram and Charama Slokam every morning from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM.
