A Rare Divine Experience
Having been blessed to reside at the Asram of HH Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji for several months, I had the great fortune of participating in the recently concluded Samatha Kumbh 2025. The ten-day spiritual celebration was a continuous stream of divine experiences that left an indelible impression on my heart.
Every moment spent in that sacred atmosphere reflected the boundless compassion of Srimannarayana and the grace of Bhagavad Ramanujacharya. One could only wonder whether such blessings were the fruit of merits accumulated over many lifetimes.
While I have participated in Brahmotsavams and temple festivals across the country, very few have touched me as deeply as Samatha Kumbh 2025. Each day’s celebrations were unique, spiritually uplifting, and aesthetically captivating. Yet among all the grand events, one stood apart—the 108 Divya Desa Shanti Kalyana Mahotsavam conducted on 15 February 2025.
An Unprecedented Celebration in History
This extraordinary event holds a unique place in spiritual history. Never before, and nowhere else in the world, has a Kalyanotsavam been simultaneously performed for all the 108 Divya Desa Perumals and Thayars at a single location.
Conceived and organized under the divine vision of HH Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji, this historic celebration brought together the divine presence of all 108 Divya Desams, creating an atmosphere that transcended time and place.
The Significance of Shanti Kalyanotsavam
Traditionally, a Kalyanotsavam is performed for Yogakshema—the well-being, prosperity, and protection of devotees.
The Sanskrit word Kalyanam signifies auspiciousness, happiness, welfare, and prosperity. A divine wedding symbolizes the harmonious union of the Divine Couple and invokes blessings upon all creation.
HH Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji aptly named this celebration “Shanti Kalyanotsavam”—a sacred festival intended to spread peace, harmony, happiness, and prosperity throughout the world.
A Glimpse of Vaikuntham on Earth
As the curtains were drawn open, devotees were greeted by a breathtaking sight. The beautifully decorated Divya Mangala Vigrahas of all the 108 Divya Desa Perumals and Thayars stood majestically adorned with exquisite ornaments, flower garlands, and divine splendor.
The entire gathering was spellbound.
For a moment, it seemed as though Vaikuntham itself had descended upon Earth. Everywhere one looked, there was the enchanting presence of Srimannarayana and Mahalakshmi, bestowing compassionate glances upon countless devotees.
No single pair of eyes could fully absorb the magnificence of witnessing Perumal in so many sacred forms simultaneously. It was truly a rare and blessed moment.
Remembering Perialwar's Divine Love
The divine vision evoked memories of the sacred experience of Perialwar (Sri Vishnuchitta).
When Perialwar beheld Srimannarayana and Mahalakshmi seated upon Garuda, his heart overflowed with such intense love that instead of seeking blessings for himself, he worried about the Lord’s well-being. Fearing that even an evil glance might affect the Lord, he spontaneously sang the immortal verses of Thiruppallandu, blessing the Lord with eternal auspiciousness.
Such was his selfless devotion that Sri Vishnuchitta came to be celebrated as Perialwar, the greatest among the Alwars.
The Grand Divine Wedding
Soon, the sacred wedding rituals commenced amidst the melodious chanting of Vedic mantras.
Perumal, resplendent in divine grandeur and adorned with dazzling ornaments and fragrant garlands, appeared to graciously preside over the celebration. Thayar, radiant and graceful like a celestial bride, seemed eager to bless devotees through Her divine presence.
The atmosphere was charged with devotion as thousands witnessed the sacred proceedings with folded hands and hearts filled with joy.
The Magnificent Mangalyadharanam
One of the most memorable moments of the celebration was the Mangalyadharanam, the tying of the sacred mangalyam.
The beautifully synchronized and meticulously coordinated simultaneous performance of the Mangalyadharanam for all 108 Divine Couples was a sight beyond description. The precision, devotion, and grandeur of the ceremony left devotees awestruck and created a truly historic spiritual spectacle.
Joyous Rituals and Divine Celebrations
Another cherished ritual was the traditional rolling of coconuts by the newly wedded Divine Couples. During this sacred ceremony, the revered Varanam Ayiram Pasurams from Sri Andal’s Nachiyar Tirumoli were recited, filling the atmosphere with divine vibrations.
Adding to the festive spirit, HH Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji lovingly showered floral balls upon the devotees, symbolizing blessings, joy, and celebration.
The entire gathering rejoiced in this rare and heartwarming expression of divine grace.
Benedictions from All 108 Divya Desams
The celebrations concluded with the recitation of auspicious benedictory verses dedicated to each of the 108 Divya Desa Perumals and Thayars, followed by Mangala Harathi offered to every deity.
Devotees received the blessings of all the Divine Couples, making the occasion a spiritually enriching and unforgettable experience.
Divine Prasadam and Mangalasasanam
Following the completion of the rituals, sumptuous prasadam was distributed to the devotees.
The sacred proceedings culminated with the heartfelt Mangalasasanam of HH Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji, whose blessings brought the grand celebration to a perfect conclusion.
A Longing to Return
Though only a few hours were spent in that spiritually charged environment, the experience left an everlasting impression upon our hearts.
As we departed, there remained a deep yearning to stay forever in that blissful atmosphere which felt no different from Vaikuntham itself. The memories of the 108 Divya Desa Shanti Kalyanotsavam continue to inspire devotion, gratitude, and spiritual joy.
With the grace of Srimannarayana, we eagerly await the opportunity to once again participate in this extraordinary celebration in the years to come.
